A routine response to a motor vehicle crash turned into an unexpected and grisly discovery on Bend Parkway Wednesday night when Bend police officers discovered the body of a 24-year-old man who had not been involved in the wreck.
The single vehicle crash took place just across from Northwest Hawthorne and while Bend Police, Bend Fire & Rescue and Oregon State Police were investigating the wreck, they discovered a deceased body not far from the crash site.
Bend Police Department is now asking for the public’s help figuring out where the 24-year-old man, who has now been identified as Robert McKinney, may have been prior to his death.
Police say they’re not sure how long McKinney’s body had been there before being discovered but said he had likely been there for some time.
The investigation is ongoing and more time is needed before any cause of death or additional information becomes available, but at this point Police say they don’t suspect any foul play.
More information will likely be released after the medical examiner has completed their investigation.
Police are now asking for the public’s help to piece together where and when McKinney may have been seen between early December and his discovery on the night of the 27th. If you have any information on Robert McKinney’s whereabouts after December 9th, please contact bend police officer Eric Russell at (541) 693-6911.
