Former Deschutes County Sheriff’s Captain Admits to Crimes

A former Deschutes County Sheriff’s Captain has changed his plea in a federal criminal case.

Appearing in court in Eugene on Monday, Scott Beard pleaded guilty to two counts of theft and two counts of money laundering during a series of crimes that happened while he was employed at the Sheriff’s Office.

Beard’s case is one of three high-profile personnel issues to hit the Sheriff’s Department in the past several months.

Central Oregon Daily’s Diane Dean talked with Deschutes County Sheriff L. Shane Nelson Monday to talk about Beard’s cases and another officer who was placed on administrative leave last week.
