Bend Fighter Makes His Professional Boxing Debut

Chris “The Truth” Johnson made his professional boxing debut in the Medford area over the weekend.

Central Oregon Daily followed the Bend boxer’s training camp from the early days to the fight last Saturday night. If you missed Chris’ story when it aired on Tuesday night, Central Oregon Daily is airing an extended version on Sunday night at 6 p.m. on KBNZ-CBS and 11 p.m. on KOHD-ABC.

Redmond Boxer Wins Silver Gloves Championship

13-year-old Redmond boxer Kevin Ochoa-Limbeck had lost close decisions in the finals of the last two silver gloves championships, but the third time was the charm.

Central Oregon Daily’s Eric Lindstrom shows us how the Redmond boxer won a national title in Missouri over the weekend.
Kevin got a welcome home celebration fit for a champion on Sunday afternoon. 75 friends, family, and fans showed up at Redmond airport to congratulate Kevin on his national title when he arrived back home from Missouri. Kevin says he hopes to fight for the U.S Olympic boxing team in the future.

Local Champion Joins Professional Ranks

Bend boxer Alberto Rivas is already a three-time Golden Gloves State Champion in Oregon, so there was very little left to pursue after five years at the amateur level. So, he and his trainer at the Deschutes County Rocks Boxing Gym have decided to turn pro. He’ll step into the ring in Medford this weekend for the most important fight of his life.

Central Oregon Daily’s Curtis Vogel was there today when Rivas signed his first professional contract.
