Friends and family of longtime La Pine resident and world war two veteran, Bob Shotwell, gathered on Saturday to remember his life. Shotwell was 94 when he passed away in April and Central Oregon Daily’s Warren Shultz was at La Pine High School when a memorial service was held with full military honors, in this week’s War Stories.
We offer a special thanks to Bob for everything he did for his community, fellow veterans and local journalism throughout his life.
War Stories is sponsored by Gary Gruner Chevrolet Buick GMC.

Though you can no longer drop off cans to the high school of your choice, you can still support them and NeighborImpact with a monetary donation.
When you donate make sure to write the school name you’d like to support in the donation memo line.
Every one dollar donation allows the organization to distribute 7 pounds of food or five meals.
15-Year Old Arrested After Making Threats Against La-Pine High School
Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Oregon deputies arrested a 15-year old boy on Wednesday for making threats against La-Pine High School.
The student who made the threats is in custody at the Deschutes County Juvenile Justice Facility facing three counts of disorderly conduct.
Authorities say that a student approached a school resource officer at La Pine High School around 7:30 this morning to tell the officer of the threat.
The deputy was able to locate and remove the suspect and found out that this was not the first time that the 15-year-old had made threats against the school.
Deschutes County Sheriff’s Deputies will provide an increased presence at all of La-Pine’s schools on Thursday.
