War Stories: The Life and Legacy of Bob Shotwell

When we launched our War Stories series more than two years ago, longtime La Pine resident Bob Shotwell was the first Central Oregon veteran that we profiled. 

Shotwell passed away last week at the age of 94, so for this week’s War Stories, we look back at the life and legacy of World War II veteran and longtime journalist, Bob Shotwell.

War Stories: Lawrence ‘Red’ Zufelt

He witnessed the mushroom cloud over Hiroshima with his own eyes and went on to serve our country in three different wars. This is the story of Navy sailor and longtime Bend resident, Lawrence ‘Red’ Zufelt.

Zufelt passed away last Wednesday at the age of 90. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 16 at 1 p.m. at the Pilot Butte Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with full military honors.
