Amtrak train 501 jumped the tracks on Monday morning while making its inaugural run out of a new station in Tacoma, Wa. The train left the tracks just before 8 a.m. in the town of DuPont and 13 train cars fell from an overpass on to I-5.
As of 5 p.m. Monday evening three people were confirmed dead with hundreds injured and sent to area hospitals. All the deaths occurred on the train despite it falling into I-5 morning traffic. The incident is currently under investigation and south I-5 is closed indefinitely.
