With upper level low pressure approaching the region, this will give the potential for scattered thunderstorms in fire weather zones 611, 640, and 642. Most of the storms will be high based, yielding light precipitation and gusty outflow winds. The National Weather Service in Pendleton has issued a Red Flag Warning, which is in effect from 2 PM to 11 PM PDT Monday. * AFFECTED AREA...In Oregon...Fire weather zones 611, the southern portion of zone 640, and all but the extreme northern portion of zone 642. * TIMING...Monday afternoon and evening. * LIGHTNING ACTIVITY...LAL 3. * PRECIPITATION...Generally less than one tenth of an inch. * IMPACTS...Lightning may cause new fire starts in the warning area. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly due to gusty outflow winds. Outdoor burning is not recommended. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now....or will shortly. A combination of strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
